Rebooting Civilization

Perhaps I’m feeling a bit of an alarmist today, but after watching the rerun of Earth 2100 followed by reading about the G8 pushing a “civilized internet“, it’s really hard not to be a bit worried. The worry part is pretty obvious, but there’s also a sense of hope because of concepts like this : Can We Rewire the Internet? So, I’m using this as my sounding board about this war that’s embroiling our world, the war between two dominant ideologies that both think they’re right. Isn’t it possible for two such divergent theories to find a middle ground so that we can all concentrate on the business of living? There’s no one way that’s right, and forcing a single way that’s intolerant of all is inhumane and uncivilized – even if it is status quo. Basically, this war doesn’t mean anything to our future because it has to end in order for us to have one.

Capitalists firmly believe that their way is the only way, because well, look at the shiny world around you that they’ve provided. How could their methodologies be wrong in the face of such opulence not seen since the ancient times of Rome and other such wonders? We now have vehicles, cities, and other amazing technologies that are opening the world to us as never before. Some of us have never been more comfortable than they are now. But the socialists look at the development of this civilization as a collective event that was created at the hands of humanity. And they see that people are not living in equal splendor. Both are right.

This war won’t end until all of the true players get involved. Yes, that means you and me, the people of the world uniting for the common good. We let large entities such as corporations and governments dictate all that concerns the governing of mankind. But how is this governing right when it lacks the will of the people behind it? It’s pretty easy to see that the Feds missed this part of the equation, which is why our economy continues to stall. Why they missed it is a bit alarming, don’t you think? Where did the age of enlightenment go?

If every single one of us finally demanded an end to this ideological war, we’d finally be able to move forward towards long-term world sustenance once more. Just think of some of the potentials that could open up if the two sides united (not to mention the job openings):

  • Building new ecologically-sound infrastructures that truly connect cities and continents to share resources for common responsibility of mankind while protecting our fragile cradle;
  • Establishing research and educational foundations that take green technologies to a new level without the threat of disruption from existing industries;
  • Pushing new studies of our planet to ensure that current technologies can continue to exist or be modified to limit further damage;
  • Reinforcing the importance of life-long learning and supporting all of the industries that are associated with the resources for this endeavor;
  • Bringing back the concepts of craftsmen and specialty-oriented trades that bring balance back to the economy;
  • Ensuring that higher learning is no longer a business endeavor, but a societal endeavor, so that all classes will have equal weight and thereby promote true innovation for the world;
  • Educating people on their responsibility as a part of this planet’s ecology: reproductive issues, health issues, ecology, and other issues that promote a balanced world;
  • Stopping the need to control all means of communication that tie humans together – meaning we remake and protect the Internet as the true social forum for all to be protected against any form of authority or regulation that will limit its ability to support the life-long learning process for all equally;
  • Opening up all forms of government to the closest scrutiny of their people to finally re-engineer them and their supporting institutions for a new balanced global world.
  • Learning about the responsibilities of financial institutions to limit destructive forms of wealth building, and give every person in those institutions the ability to enact change without repercussions.

Every person on this planet will have to leave their comfort zone for this to work. If every one of us came up with one simple change towards rebooting civilization, would our new world see a better future for all? How many jobs can you create out of your changes? There are already people out there trying to start this revolution. It’s up to us to help it become a successful one. Are you willing to shake up the establishment?
