Culture Not Costume

I just saw this campaign against racism being run by the Students Teaching Against Racism in Society (STARS), a student organization at Ohio University. It’s a poster campaign that is currently in work and a great one to support. Here are just two of the posters available that cover some common racial constructs we all recognize. Every ethnicity has a racial image that people love to exploit. It’s disrespectful and limiting, and people are getting tired of the presumption offered by such gross characterizations. People are individuals and not comical characters to snicker at.

Send STARS an email at ohioustars@gmail.com if you have any questions or are interested in using them, and check out this blog for the latest information about the poster campaign. Today’s youth are just full of amazing inspiration and creativity. Great job, STARS, for a powerful campaign against racial profiling. It’s a lesson that’s long overdue!
