I was going through my daily Net perusals, when I came across a post that Jane Friedman put up today on her blog. The title was what had actually caught my eye,”There are Some People Who Don’t Wait”. With my curiosity peaked, I hit the link and landed on the commencement speech given by Robert Krulwich to the class of 2011 at Berkeley Journalism School. Needless to say, you have to read the entire speech to feel the inspiration pour into you! This is the type of thing that pushes me to go forth and create!
I have tears in my eyes as I read his words, and know the feeling that he mentions, “When you talk or write or film, you work with the music inside you, the music that formed you. Different generations have different musics in them, so whatever they do, itβs going to come out differently and it will speak in beats of their own generation.” Robert Krulwich is simply a genius that needs to be heard. He’s pinpointed what’s missing in today’s society.
Do yourself a favor and read his speech. I hope that it gives you the same inspiration that it gave me: Robert Krulwich – There are some people who don’t wait. Teach us more, Mr. Krulwich!
This expresses my feelings about self-employment to the letter … literally. I will NEVER wait for someone else to dictate to me who or what I am. And I know you won’t either. π
I’ve spent my entire life being different, listening to a different drum beat, and can’t change who I am. This speech is my new inspiration – I’ve saved it on my e-reader for a pick-me-up!
