Vik Muniz, a Brazilian artist who lives in New York, has got a lot of cranes. These cranes were originally created by children who wanted to make something for the people of Japan after that devastating earthquake in March. Bezos Family foundation, a non-profit youth-centric organization, created a Paper Cranes For Japan campaign where every crane sent in to their Seattle headquarters would generate a $2 donation with a ceiling of $200,000. Needless to say, they received over 2 million cranes from 38 countries around the world and ended up donating $500,000 to the Japanese Earthquake reconstruction efforts.
Now they had two million cranes, which is where Vik Muniz comes in. He received a truckload of these cranes and created his piece, which is being turned into an art poster. The proceeds from this poster will also be donated to Japan’s reconstruction and recovery efforts through the Architecture Through Humanity.
