Chihuly Gets A Museum

I seriously love Dale Chihuly‘s glass works. I’ve been following his installations for years, but have only had the chance to see one of them up close and personal. For those of you who are in the same boat (ha ha – get it – look at the picture), you will get your chance as his home town of Seattle has approved the installation of a museum dedicated to his artistry. Though there seems to be mixed signals coming from the public, who view this new exhibition hall as nothing more than another vanity location for the rich to congregate and show off. The Seattle Center has had struggles in getting a big audience in other such exhibitions, and the vision of Chihuly himself sounds a bit self-serving as he had wanted a non-compete clause to prevent sales of other artists’ glass creations. At least that was disapproved. Read the artinfodotcom post to get more background information on the project.

I haven’t read too much about Dale Chihuly personally, but he does sound like fame may be going to his head a little? But it’s not surprising as it seems to affect a lot of people who gain unprecedented attention for their creations. I guess it’s sometimes easy to forgive, because their work is just so beautiful and inspirational. It wouldn’t be the first time that I met a famous artist who can be a bit of a (fill in the blank with your appropriate adjective). Just saying…

But thank goodness that there are more artists out there who really are inspirations in every way! And thank you to each and every one of them everywhere for giving us such amazing eye candy to devour. We do appreciate it, even if we don’t always support it.
