Powerful role models help us aspire to reach into the stratosphere of our dreams. Some are introverted, and some are so completely extroverted that their presence is like a magnet. Kathleen Hanna is one such riot grrrl who believes in the power of females, and is outspoken about the subject of feminism.
It’s hard to imagine unless you’ve been walking in a woman’s shoes (no pumps for me), but every woman has been on the receiving end of inequality. And every woman responds in different manners to that thumb that threatens to push her into the ground. The woman you look at today is the result of all the pressures, expectations, and roadblocks that are put up throughout their lives (yes, that goes for both sexes, but the results are unique to each individual). I always tell myself to never give in to any expectation that isn’t your own, unless you’re willing to live with the consequences. Kathleen goes much further by blowing expectations with her own actions as a life-long activist with influences on our creative culture.
There is a Kickstarter campaign which will be closing on October 27th which is going to complete a film about this powerful singer who just wants to do what she loves most: sing! We all have dreams we want to reach, and try to make them happen in our own way. She spends her life pushing that dream into reality. And now, there’s a way to put her story out to inspire those current and future generations of creatives to do what they love.
Life’s not only about the hard sell. It’s also about feeding the soul so that you can go out there to do meaningful actions that aren’t only about yourself. Role models don’t always come in those perfectly beautiful packages that ads love to promote. Sometimes, they’re about the visual representation that celebrates the passions, faults, triumphs, struggles, and messy experiences that come from going after your heart’s desire.
Inspirations comes in so many different forms, so don’t get caught up with the packaging because the content is what’s most important!
