We’re all standing with Reddit against SOPA and PIPA and for P.R.O. T.E.C.H. J.O.B.S.:
There are times when certain causes have to be supported, and this is one of those times. We are seeing our rights being decimated at an astonishing rate with the current Congress, and this time (well, there are many other times) they are taking over powers that they were never given. Their organization, ICE, is responsible for over 84,000 mistaken takedowns AND deporting a missing teen (American citizen) to Columbia. Is this who we want to control the Internet? Or worse, the people with money who can use these legislations to their monetary benefits and our dissolution?
The Internet is vital to the prosperity of mankind, so much so that the United Nations declared it to be a human right. We have already accomplished some wondrous things and helped even the playing field for people who have used it towards their future and ours. The world protects this one thing more than anything because it helps bind us together by highlighting our similarities and not our differences.
If you are against SOPA and PIPA, then you are not agreeing with piracy. This isn’t the issue. When money overruns our conversation, then we lose sight of the truly important things in life. Things like freedom, interconnection, hope, capability, innovation, and so much more. We are people first. That’s what this fight is about. And that’s what Congress continues to ignore. This isn’t about them. It’s about our collective future that they’re trying to put behind bars for the sake of $$. That’s just wrong on every level!
