We’re More Than Labels

I really wanted to go back to my search for inspirations, but the world isn’t cooperating.

“Liberal”, “Capitalist”, “Socialist”, “Traitor”…

I really do have to stop reading the mainstream news because I’ve been running up against a trend that I’ve always ignored though it still won’t go away. If you’ve been insane enough to follow politics lately, then you’ve also been hearing people throw about these words (and a whole lot more) as though they weren’t the word bombs that they are. Frankly it’s gotten to the point where I think that we adults don’t deserve to be making the rules any longer. The world that I’m looking at has a dirty glaze over it, coming from the washed out ashes of our inadequacies. And politics is not the only one to blame.

What I want to see is more people stepping up to bring people together, not tear them down.

Labels breed contempt, and there is plenty there in the world of politics. The labels there are much wider and destructive because they try to identify your core values based on a single word. It’s a place that I have no interest in, because it’s not a place of growth. No one listens to the meaning of what you’re saying, because they’re too busy focusing on a single word or the way that you’re dressed. News flash: I’m pretty sure that most of us don’t invest our entire being into the way we dress or what we say.

Oh wait, I guess that I’m wrong, because there are a boatload of “people” who do just that. And they’re trying to force the rest of us to conform to their standards. Don’t buy what they’re doing for a single minute. Only you can speak for you!

Don’t be a label: Dress how you want. Read what you want. Write what you want. Create what you want. Just make sure that you can and will back up all of your actions. Because that is all on you.

…And I’ll be right there with you!
