Robot Friends

We’re used to seeing robots work alone or one-on-one with us, but lately we’re seeing more robot swarms that are coordinating their efforts to get a task done efficiently and expeditiously. These interactions are extremely complex as robots do not have the same ability to think freely as humans (no matter how complex their coding). Take a look at this video of a project, “Spatially Targeted Communication and Self-Assembly,” that was presented by Nithin Mathews, Anders Lyhne Christensen, Rehan O’Grady, and Marco Dorigo, from Universite Libre de Bruxelles and Instituto Universitario de Lisboa, at IROS 2012 in Vilamoura, Portugal. This is what the new generation of robotic collaboration looks like. Pretty incredible, isn’t it?
