Human Paintings

And once again, My Modern Met has led me to another amazing Irish painter. Nigel Cox calls his style “photo-realistic minimalism”, but the details he renders in his subjects are truly mind boggling because of their life-like qualities. Here’s a painter that makes you take a closer look to see if your eyes are being tricked. Because he spent a lot of time in remote locations while on the Transglobe Expedition, he found an affinity with the cleanliness of his surroundings, which has found their way into his work.

For some reason, this painting of Dante’s Disciple really speaks to me because it proves the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Take a look at his blog and his works, because you’ll find more of his fascinating paintings. Studying humans brings such life into the paintings, don’t you think?
