Just a short note that this site, though it’s still fairly new and unknown, is planning on blacking out tomorrow with others on the Net in protest of Internet censorship in any form.
Yes, we do have serious problems with illegal financial activities, but the Net continues to show that it actually can do a decent job of policing one another when needed in moral circumstances. Unlike the legal hand-slapping in our business, financial, and government sectors. Many of us feel that copyright, patents, and other legal protections are no longer capable of doing the job that they were intended to do, as these acts were created for the previous century. In activities involving the creation of original works in this 21st century, it isn’t going to only be about ownership and what’s due to us. We’ve done that one to death, and need to understand how far activities such as responsible collaboration and fair use can take us in our innovative world. That’s why the likes of Creative Commons was founded. People are fighting for freedoms that are being taken away by our governments, who shouldn’t have this kind of power. Legislation shouldn’t enter into the public domain, as it is not their grounds – it’s all of ours.
So, I hope you understand why I’m joining this blackout. Enjoy your time, and see you on the flip side when I continue to share inspirations that make my own creativity flow.
