Museum HR Giger Bar – WOW!

I was caught by a post on My Modern Met that was showing some images of the Museum HR Giger Bar. We all know about his surrealistic imagery that has been the model for so many moments in horror history- like Alien. Talk about a place that blows your mind and lets you live in his mind at the same time! After searching some more on Youtube, I came across the video above that had some close-ups of the bar’s details. The skeleton architecture juxtaposed with the tranquil music at the video’s beginning makes the whole thing seem like a surreally quiet moment in a horror movie leading up to a climatic event. Find out more about the artist and his bar by reading this article.

p.s. The silly moment of the photographer at the end is hilarious.

A Toy Wanders

The life of being a collectible is not easy. Day in and day out they sit in the place that you put them, wondering if today’s the day that something new will happen.

Well, that’s the story that Tom Jenkins wrote and made into a short movie clip. One entire day where a toy got to travel to the place of his heart’s desire with the help of his friends. It’s a beautiful movie that shows that everything has a soul that yearns for something more.

Hugo & Victor

I have become mesmerized with the content and imagery on Paris Pâtisseries, and their coverage of the famous Hugo & Victor shop in Paris speaks of an architectural designer’s dream as much as it does about the tastes. I can honestly say that those of us outside of places like Paris are definitely not used to seeing desserts being treated at the same level as jewelry. According to their post, you can order from any of the displays and a fresh one will be lovingly packaged and delivered to you. That’s taking personal service to a whole different cloud level in this dessert heaven.

From the clean lines to the color balance that bursts away from the monochromatic background, this whole store is simply eye candy of a whole different magnitude. Anyone who enters here will probably have that same sense of blinding shock because of all of the beauty. Adding stellar service, gastronomical wonders, and clean magnificance just seems like icing on an already drool-worthy treat. I can honestly say that, for once, I am envious of this experience. Patisseries come in so many different colors from the dessert palette, but Victor & Hugo walks on a level that few seem to walk in any trade. C’est magnifique, Paris Pâtisseries et Victor & Hugo!!

p.s. Experience a walk through Paris by going through this entire blog. The photographs of the people and places are simple breathtaking and must be seen! Find out more about the talented (and probably full from all of the treats) man behind Paris Pâtisseries, Adam Wayda.

Sarolta Bán Transforms

My Modern Met brought out another wonderful Hungarian photographic talent, Sarolta Bán, that thrives in the world of photo manipulations. She made her start in jewelry design, but soon found her passion in transforming the normal into a world of magical make believe. Here is an interview from Italian Esquire that gives us a brief glimpse into a gorgeous mind that finds the extraordinary everywhere, and tells their story through her imagery.

Jaw-Dropping FotoWeek

This image just makes you gasp in awe. It’s one of the Fine Art winners, Alessandro Belgiojoso, of the 2011 FotoWeekDC contest. But if you go to My Modern Met’s post of many of the winners, then you’ll see some more photographic talent that simply inspires. The eye is a powerful lens to see through, but the camera immortalizes a moment that the eye can only glimpse. This particular moment gave me that same moment of “gasp” that I experienced when seeing the boats approaching Hogwarts scene in the first Harry Potter. Now that’s talent!

Ending On A Sweet Note

Dolled Up Cupcakes

Cafe Pouchkine’s Strudel

Food design is so fascinating to me. Desserts, especially so. The sheer artistic masterpieces that can be created from just a little bit of sugar and spice and everything nice is a wonder to behold. Although I do love nibbling on sweets, I find that looking at them is (almost) as fulfilling…to my brain if not my stomach. Those insane competitions that pit one culinary artisan against another make you gasp in amazement (and horror when the creation falls). The numerous blogs of fans and creators that spin webs of cotton candy onto your catatonic and envious brain cells are such amazing treats:

Thought For The Day – Look Up

I saw this in my feed a few days ago, and was once again smiling at one of my favorite quotes. I had seen it on an image at the Imaginary Foundation site as well, and fell in love with it because it symbolizes everything that I love: nature, space, astronomy, imagination, hope, and dreams. When I’m having a tough day, this quote gives me the strength to reach for my dreams against any odds that are thrown at me.

We all overcome incredible odds everyday. But it’s up to us to see where we’re at, and compare it to where we want to be. Stars aren’t unreachable. Stars are our aspirations personified.

EFF Wants You To See – Free Speech

EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) put out a new tutorial that clearly shows how tenuous our rights to free speech actually are. If we aren’t fighting to keep them open for us all, they will disappear. The latest legal moves, like SOPA and Protect IP, have so many visible bear traps that will catch unsuspecting and innocent people who are exercising their rights to free speech. If we’re going to close our eyes against the injustice and let it go on, then we will deserve what is happening to us. People in other countries don’t have a small percentage of the freedoms that we in the western world enjoy. We don’t know what it’s like to be under someone’s thumb 24/7-365, nor should we want to find out.

Today’s Thanksgiving Day, a time to give thanks for the bounty that we have. It’s the perfect day to remember that the bounty isn’t ever free, and I’m not talking in numbers and cents. There is more to life than money, and we need to value those qualities a lot more than we do. Thanks to EFF, Hugh D’Andrade, and Richard Esguerra for this important presentation!

Rosie Emerson

Going through the new pieces on offer at the 5 Pieces Gallery, I literally stumbled to a halt when I glimpsed the work of Rosie Emerson. This is a close-up shot of one of her one of her pieces, Daisy Lowe, from her Ornaments of Alchemy collection. The show, which ended in October, was a display of photography and collage by Rosie for the collection of Annoushka Ducas. You can find this piece at the 5 Pieces Gallery. And go through her amazing site to see the beautifully modern style that keeps the viewer guessing about her models as they seemingly float on wispy lines that completely defy gravity. Rosie Emerson has an absolutely breathtaking style that has to be experienced!

I somehow stumbled onto another gallery that carries some amazing talent that will infatuate you. 5 Pieces Gallery is an international gallery that focuses on young contemporary art, which are simply jaw-dropping. It’s also refreshing to read their About page as they have some inspiring motivations for their gallery, as well as a long-term commitment to each artist. Go check them out, and find a new aspiring artist to fall in love with. There are so many to choose from! Bravo to this international Net gallery who clearly wants to keep a powerful conversation about art going for anyone to join into.
