Wow, Something’s Changing in USA?

I don’t think that I’ve ever seen anything like this before in the USA (at least in my life time). I caught this image that was tweeted by Michael Moore and taken by Matt O’Brien (@mattohyeah) from a Business Insider’s story. Blows your mind, doesn’t it? Continue reading

Friendly Warning – If You Link To Google Maps

I just saw this article when perusing DesignTaxi, and was speechless for a few seconds. And then  reality once again hit me upside my head. There is nothing unusual with this as this is how all business has been instructed to operate. If you have something good, then by all means, charge for its use. What started out as another altruistic company is now becoming all too predictable. I can only wonder if any company can hold on to their good intentions for the long haul?!

If you are linking to Google Maps as an easy and free way to direct your customers to you, you had better check your traffic to make sure that you fall within their free criteria of 25,000 hits. But I also have a question to pose to everyone: Does the business world intend to charge for every thing that they produce, no matter how small? Because if you are, then you might want to prepare for potential negative repercussions. Of course, work should be compensated, but you should also take into account your original intentions for the work’s creations. If you are claiming to be socially-supportive, then you might want to let your audience know of the limitations to your support so that they are prepared for the inevitable changes that will affect them.

Business’ sole pursuit of unimpeded profit-seeking is already being called into question by so many people around the world. I guess that some companies aren’t overly concerned about the voices? But what will happen when work gets re-engineered to socially responsible work? Only then will people stop and think about every action to ensure that they are making them for the right reasons.

Tetris Gets Back At Gamers

That old popular game, Tetris, is back with a vengeance. The music seems so relaxing until you hit the “Play!” button. And then, it’s game on… in a unique way. David Kraftsow is a New York-based designer that clearly likes to mess with normal view and give the user a new perspective. His Tetris game is no exception. It’s like Tetris is getting back at gamers in a fun yet off-kilter way. Give it a try and let David know that you like the way he views the world. There’s something awesome about going outside of your comfort zone, isn’t there? : )

And find out more about how David thinks with his interview from Black & Blue & Gold. But be sure that you’re not prone to motion sickness because it is definitely a ride of a game.

Thanks again, DesignTaxi!

A Geeky And Adorable Book

If you’re noticing that your child (or you) are exhibiting geeky qualities, then this book might be for you. It’s an ABC educational children’s book written by New-Zealand writing team of Andrew and Sarah Spear, and illustrated by Edit Sliacka, that also has an accompanying iPad app for further learning enjoyment. Happily, “C” stands for caffeine, for all of us over-caffeinated geeks. ; )  I love this book already!

Check out their site for ordering information: My Little Geek.com. And thanks for the heads up, DesignTaxi!

Ai Weiwei And 1000 Bicycles

When Ai Weiwei wants to make a statement, he doesn’t stop until it shouts. His newest exhibition at Taipei’s Fine Arts Museum is titled, Ai Weiwei, Absent, but his presence will surely be felt through his works. This piece consists of 1,000 bicycles and comments on the rapid changes happening in Chinese society. The exhibition starts on October 29, 2011 and will run to January 29, 2012. Unfortunately, he won’t be there as he is still confined to Beijing.

Light Calligraphy

Light has a special ability to invoke feelings. The luminescence and the tranquility of it reminds us of a life force. Combine those qualities with human writing, or calligraphy in particular, and you get a sense of intelligence in what you’re witnessing. Julien Breten, aka Kaalam, takes his passion for calligraphy to a new level with his latest work. Kaalam practices the strokes of Arabic and Eastern calligraphy styles until they become second nature to his hand, and then transforms the actions using light, long exposures, and gel-covered lamps. Simply breathtaking! – found through another My Modern Met post

Zombies From Pumpkins

There really isn’t much to say, as this creation says it all. Ray Villafane has once again created an insanely gory sight with two huge pumpkins giving birth to zombies. What a perfect expression of Halloween. Wouldn’t you say? Thanks My Modern Met!
