Feeling Ill

Today has been a day that has just been off kilter. From the beginning, things felt skewed and wrong. And it didn’t improve.

I’d forgotten (or tried to) that today was the day of final decision for one man. I followed the news about the happenings, with difficulty and disbelief, and then became more ill after hearing the mother of the victim talking. It was ugly. I understand her pain, and I only know the released details of the case on Troy Davis, but her words were just too ugly. Then I watched the police moving in and ready to act against peaceful citizens at Georgia (and at Wall Street). Nothing makes sense anymore. Is this why I’ve been feeling so ill all day? More than just one man is dying today. We all are dying a little more today.

At 11:08 pm PST EST, we let him down. We let ourselves down. Just too sad…

People Show Their True Nature

Here’s a look at the Occupy Wall Street Protests #occupywallst
(put together by embrown23 on Youtube)

And here’s what the officials are causing:

http://youtu.be/jYaA-34c-vI

This is the kind of event that shows people’s true natures. I would suggest that you weigh the people’s actions in these videos against the comments that are coming from observers outside of the protest (read mainstream news blogs, Youtube comments, and Twitter to see what I’m talking about) to see the amount of narrow-visioned intolerance we are fighting against here in America – supposedly the land of the free. If anything affects someone’s protected little portion of the world, then they attack with tunnel-visioned hate talk. But if it’s not about them, well, they’ve got better things to worry about. And don’t even get me started about over-reacting officials who seem to cause more harm than good lately (see the Day 4 post from Occupy Wall Street site). Exactly what is happening with humanity? It’s more than obvious that being given what you want spoils adults as much as children. Maybe now people can start to realize just how big of a problem we have in this country. Continue reading

We Can Save

We have the ability to save. We have reasons to care. We have reasons to be careful. We’re not alone. We all rely on one another. Humans, animals, insects, plants, and every other living creature that we know of (and are still finding every year) all need one another to survive. It should cause us to stop and think before we act. Those few moments of contemplation can mean the world to another living being that exists alongside us. –  from National Geographic

OMG – Awesome music of Rüfüs forwarded by Zealous Co

http://www.vimeo.com/28256226

Zealous Co has forwarded this video for our enjoyment, and I am seriously enjoying the beat! Collide showcases the indie electro genius of the Australian band, Rüfüs, along with the images of a busy Parisian city as produced by Benjamin Zadig. The frenetic life swells in both the images and the music, and make you come to life yourself! Simply awesome – I can’t stop listening to it…

p.s. Do yourself a favor and buy Rüfüs’ Digital or Physical EP. Every single song on there drives the beat into your soul. It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced!

Thought For The Day – If You Want To Learn Something

I’ve feel like I’ve wasted so much time reading mainstream news and expert commentaries. I’m sure that I’ll give them a little of my time, but not too much anymore. Thought for the day: If you want to learn something mind-altering, then don’t follow status quo. Follow the people – individually. Go search them out, read their words, and learn viewpoints that work in life. Become inspired by the words that can be heard above the white noise. Continue reading

Whoa – Was That What It Was Really Like?

Pan Am on ABC

http://youtu.be/OFPxyTEcJXU

Is it just me, or do the good ol’ days seem not so good in reality? Sure, the trappings are attractive, but hardly realistic to sustain under the harsh light of day. No matter what age we live in, we love to surround some part of our past in a golden bubble of pretty imagery. Perhaps to get over the harsh realities that surround us on a daily basis when the light shines on our true lives. Luckily (?), it seems that the creative world is not really buying the stories from our elders who lived during those times. Tranquility, happiness, satisfaction – was any of it real? Perhaps it’s easy to feel like you’re life is in control, when there weren’t too many choices to worry about. But on the flip side, not having the ability to make certain choices seems restrictive when compared to our current expectations. Continue reading

Awesome Words by Sasha Dichter – Generosity

Stop saying “No” and start opening yourself to generosity. Philanthropy needs to start with opportunity for ourselves and others, so that we can create a long-term future for society. Sasha Dichter’s Ted Talk allowed him to talk about his Generosity Experiment where he said “Yes” to every request for one month. Instead of thinking about only the profitability of a project, Acumen Fund has looked at the details and the potential, and has provided hope for more dreams and helped to raise someone’s life just a little bit higher. Risk is always involved in anything, but the outcome can be so much more than you thought, if the project has everything lined up perfectly for success and you took that leap of faith in another’s dreams and hard work.

Ethics = WE

Big Think is covering ethics in life and business today, and it’s a topic that seems to be slipping from mainstream societal view. Of course, the words are evident in everything that is written, but the actions don’t match those words in any way shape or form. Because if they did match, then the social problems (hunger, poverty, injustice, intolerance, abuse, etc.) that are increasing worldwide would actually be decreasing. And our leaders would actually be pursuing actions that hold responsibility above those of ideology. Continue reading

404 or Is It?

As far as 404 (non-existent link) pages go, this one is pretty tame and yet also pretty inspiring! Turning a 404 into an opportunity to browse into a discovery about the site that you were aiming for. And doing it in a way that makes you smile. Now, that has Coca Cola written all over it. Probably why I’m still so attached to them after all of these years.
