Thought For The Day – Pass This On

This is a simple task. Anyone who reads this, please do me a favor. Copy this image and pass it on to someone else. It doesn’t even have to be someone you know.  Just simply do it because you want to pass on something good to someone else. Maybe this will remind everyone that we’re all in this together.

You choose the meaning, you choose the message. Personalize it if you want. Just pass on the thought behind this image. We need to remember that every tree is important to the forest.

Thanks for your help!

Look Up At The Sky

If you live in Canada or North America, you might want to step outside of your house near midnight and take a look up at the sky. According to astronomers, the powerful solar geomagnetic storms that have been bombarding Earth have finished with us just yet. So if your looking for natural inspiration, you’re not going to get much bigger or prettier than this. At least in the sky you won’t. Click on the image below to see more of the sky show.

Working For Nature

It looks like there are a couple of new innovations that have been created for the express purpose to work with or try to save nature. Now that’s something to get behind!

One creation, The Bat Billboard, was devised by Chris Woebken and Natalie Jeremijenko to house bats in an urban environment while also educating a public which has seen them only as pests. The billboard has electronics which translates the bat calls so that humans can better understand their activity patterns, which includes controlling insects and and enabling plant pollination.

There Is Creative And There Is Not

Janet Echelman was stuck without paints in a faraway land. And so she went to find some inspiration that could help her finish what she had promised to start. One not-so-casual glimpse at a normal sight of fisherman working with their netting transformed her path of creativity. No longer was she working with a single medium, because she incorporates nature into her dynamically fluid “pieces” of sculpture. I use the word “pieces” with humor, because her art rivals buildings in size. And not only that, but it also incorporates the talents and minds of various technical and scientific disciplines to allow her to see and build things that never existed before now. This is what ingenuity and innovation looks like when it’s done right.

And now for the non-inspirational: Continue reading

Pascal Campion – Are You Following Him?

It’s been awhile since I mentioned Pascal, but here’s a small excerpt from one of his newer images for Van Eaton Galleries. This is a great example of why I love his work so much. Not only is he a great guy, but he’s a great artist with a whimsical view of the world that really makes you appreciate what life is all about. If you haven’t seen his stuff, then go to his blog site to see more: Pascal Campion. His mind is full of this kind of sweetness, and so is his blog.

When Adam Ellis Is Bored on Facebook…

Most Facebook users post pictures of themselves, loved ones, and more. And it looks like you’re providing Illustrator extraordinaire, Adam Ellis, with lots to get inspired from. Here’s just one of his caricatures that he drew during his more lucid moments. Never Be My Friend is his site and maybe a warning. Get used to seeing yourself as only Adam will probably see you.

Will We Ever Learn?

Chaos is running rampant around the world. Different places, different people, different backgrounds. And yet their actions mirror one another. That’s a pretty telling sign that something is changing. Frankly, listening to any of our leaders talking, it’s unbelievable that they don’t (or refuse to) understand what has changed or why. Seriously?

Revolutions start when one person’s idea becomes another’s, and it continues to spread like wildfire. Of course, the same could be said for anarchy. We’re seeing both happening and it’s spreading everywhere with a vengeance. Obviously, because the power struggle between the haves and the have nots has finally reached a breaking point. Here are two different takes trying to explain why this is happening:

Street Art Is Back In LA

Street art is alive and well in LA, even after the end of the MOCA-LA show earlier this week. Brooklyn Street Art, Thinkspace, and C.A.V.E. Gallery (Venice, CA) is presenting a show, Street Art Saved My Life, that will open on August 12, 2011 and run through September 4, 2011. Here’s the announcement with all of the street artists who will be showing there. There’s also going to be a panel discussion, Street Art Stories, with some big names in the street art world today. Passing on the love to others.

Philip Levine – US Poet Laureate

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVjThtw6XMk

After reading the NY Times article announcing Philip Levine as our next US Poet Laureate, it’s poetic to put this up as he is a voice who speaks for the working class. His words are not the flowery words of love, but the words of one who has struggled as much as anyone for what he wanted. Wanting to do this announcement justice, a video clip seemed more appropriate than a two-dimensional image. Poetry is made up of cavorting words that sometimes require more than a piece of paper.

As I looked for the right video of Philip Levine on YouTube, I came across this moving rendition of “What Work Is” by Gabe Cortez. The camera work, the atmosphere, the juxtaposition of scene and voice makes this a memorable piece to experience. It seemed like a most fitting tribute to this moment. Continue reading
