Some days, you just need a pick-me-up. Look around you, and you’ll probably find it in the least expected of places…

Here’s a favorite of mine:
Neil deGrasse Tyson is the voice of space. Anyone who has ever been in love with outer space has probably heard Neil talk. And what a talker he is. He inspires. He truly makes us look up at the sky in wonder, because of his own child-like love of the carpet of twinkling lights that envelopes our little planet called Earth. And those planetary bodies that are so different from ours, and yet also kin to us. And those unknown discoveries that drive us to keep seeking knowledge. All topics that make eyes light up with joy, and brains light up with understanding.
That excites me. That makes me want to grab people in the street, “Have you heard this? We are star dust. Not only are we in the universe. The universe is in us.”
How can you not be inspired by this thought? I feel so powerful knowing that I have a link with the universe around us. And we all share this amazing discovery together.
The Space Shuttle Endeavor continues to roll into our hearts, as it made its final trip to the California Science Center this last weekend. Though many people question why we pursue space science, there is little doubt that many more people truly understand the intent of our pursuit of knowledge into the starry skies above. We are intimately linked with those stars, as we were born of them. We are made up of star dust, and the Endeavor flew through that star dust. Everything is interconnected, so everything needs to be understood.
History isn’t only made by the grand gestures. Sometimes it’s made by a small heartbeat that kickstarts a new dream for each and every one of us to pursue. Love comes in many forms, and Endeavor is the culmination of many people’s love of outer space.
And go to the LA Times to see some more amazing images of Endeavor’s latest journey.
Thought for the day: Fan your flames

I saw this memorable sentiment on the same day that Felix Baumgartner set the world record longest base jump with the Red Bull Stratos team. How appropriate that this amazing thought for the day should have appeared. With the crazy busy schedules that we all have, it is hard to find reasons to set you life on fire. And yet, if you want to make your life meaningful, then this is exactly what you should want to do.
Our world needs more extraordinary people and acts. Not just to break world records, but to break world stagnation. We only move forward when we are inspired. It’s a different feeling to do anything when you are feeling that inspiration coursing through your veins like liquid energy, fanning your flames of creativity.
Go out and find what makes your soul stir. And when you find it, see how you can fit it into your daily life so that your every thought and action makes you FEEL. It’s when your feeling complex emotions that you’re feeling most alive. It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to feel big to you. Because then you’re fanning the flames of your life into the brightest light that will be seen throughout the world.
On Sunday, October 14, 2012, one man completed his quest to make the longest base jump ever. After an aborted attempt a few days prior, all systems were go on a gloriously beautiful New Mexico day. That history past (Joe Kittinger) and history present (Felix Baumgartner) were working together makes this story all the more special. As his friends, loved ones, team members, and fans looked on, a delicate looking balloon rose through the atmosphere to the highest point in man’s recorded history (127,570 ft) with one man enclosed in a capsule created by the Red Bull Stratos team. Think about it, Felix didn’t attempt this jump once. He’s done prior test jumps that still boggle the mind, though they fell short of the record 102,800 completed by Joe. Now history has been made by a team of huge minds and brave hearts.
Congratulations to the Red Bull Stratos team. What an amazing feat! And if you missed it, then read the Guardian UK blog to get a sense of the suspense we were all feeling prior to the jump.

Safely floating down to Earth…

Did you ever think of a jellyfish as a bowl? Well, it looks like the French artist known as Sylphielmetallium sure has. She’s got a manga style but with a gorgeous use of watercolor styling that reminds me a little of the Chinese illustrator Benjamin. Her imagery has a dreamlike quality that makes you look closely at how she’s tied her theme together. Check out her work on Cuded and on deviantART. You’ll be glad you did!
So, as always, Cuded comes across some amazing illustrators, and this one is no exception. Niklas Asker is a Swedish illustrator who strength shows in his illustrative commentaries. Take a look at Niklas’ take on fictional characters and non-fictional people. You’ll probably recognize who they are. His comic style powerfully depicts the world as he sees it. Don’t you love his style? Then go check out his site right now!

There are never enough free moments in life where you can just do what your heart and soul desire. For some, like me, it will be writing freely about whatever pops into our heads. For others, it’s to let the nebulous tones turn into something magically harmonic in the surrounding silence. And there are as many others who have their own ideas of what constitutes happiness to them. But we call all say the one thing that Hugh McLeod is stating out loud:

Check out more of Hugh’s creations. They really will make you smile, and then be inspired! Thanks thisisn’thappiness for another great find.
DO YOU WANNA CREATE NOW? : )
Have you ever just stopped and looked around in amazement at just how gorgeous the pictures of nature are? Today, we finally had some rain and the resulting sky and clouds were absolutely breathtaking. I wanted to stop and take a picture of the sunset because it has been ages since I’ve seen the sky look like a watercolor. The image is in my head, and won’t let go:
The sherbet mounds of whipped clouds are tinged with shadows of white and gray at the edge, making them pop from the violet-blue hue that comes from a blazing globe of light that is sinking past our sight. As the wind blows, the clouds change shapes instantaneously, yet always retaining the mystery that the storm leaves with them. In the farthest point of the horizon, the glowing amber slowly sinks into the moody blue waters and the resulting beams of light escaping from this union blaze across the sky in glorious streaks of pure white. Where this white hits a cloud, a light seems to come on from within and turns each one into individual night lights glowing in an ever-darkening night.
I wish that I had the picture to show you, because the colors were spectacular. And best of all, the world looked clean and new. That’s always the best part of a good rainy day, isn’t it?
So, instead, here are a couple of pictures of nature from Piccsy who managed to find more ways to show that nature really is an artist at heart:

This Finnish artist has got some amazing work for one who is just starting out, having graduated from Metropolia University last year. Her water colors are whimsical and magical, and completely ready for the fairy tale world that she wants to enter. Riikka Auvinen‘s work has the look and feel of fairy tale images of yesteryear, though her favorite characters are actually sweet little vampires. But the one image that caught my eye on her Cuded exposure was the one above entitled something small. It’s clear once you’ve gone through her deviantART portfolio, that her talent is definitely NOT something small. I can’t wait to see how she grows and the stories that she will tell through her gorgeous watercolors.
