How would you feel if you were the last survivor on a planet that was tearing itself apart? Here’s a short story about a man who was disconnected from everything, facing the crucial moment where he’d have to take serious stock of his life. What happens at the end of existence? Let’s find out. I hope that you enjoy it!

There! What was that in the distance? Could it be another survivor?

Walt had been floating on his lifeboat for what seemed like ages. As the sun blazed down on him, repeating the same skin-searing process of the past few days, he was feeling lightheaded from thirst. It had been a long time since the rains came to wash him away from the debris of what was once his home.

The earthquake had come before everyone was prepared. Screams barely sounded above the roaring freight train sounds reverberating everywhere. As the land started splitting, Walt had known that this was finally it: the Big One. At least it felt like the Big One, though he had no idea just how far it had spread. The news stations had gone off the air instantaneously, probably because the transmission lines were being swallowed by enormous gapes appearing from underneath. The land looked as though it was screaming in horror along with the rest of humanity. Continue reading

MYPET – Pays To Know

How about we finish the day of with a little music? Vimeo always introduces us to some amazing musicians and this video falls into that category. MYPET singing Pays To Know is full of heart-thumping beats and whimsical treats for the eyes. The atmosphere is chilly but the sounds are anything but. And you’ve got to love that intro scene with the Little Shop of Horrors feel. The videography team who partnered with MYPET did an amazing job, with the directorial credits going to Carlos Lopez Estrada. This is a seriously gorgeous video to accompany an incredibly mesmerizing song. Can’t wait to hear more from them!

– Thanks Vimeo for this unforgettable piece of artistry!

La Cuisine – In Space

The space program puts some amazing things into orbit around our beautiful home and further. All of that travel makes an astronaut really hungry. So what do they eat? MREs? Nah, too square. Food pellets? Hey, do they look like fish to you? Hmmm, so what should they cook? Well, if your home is famous for La Cuisine (perhaps like the gastronomic wonders of France), then you know that your stomach is about to get very happy. But what ingredients should be used? Meat? Check (hey, it’s a fantasy). Carrots? Yummmm. Add a few more ingredients and then pair it with…a gorgeous bottle of bordeaux and you have Un Petit Plat Pour l’Homme (instead of a small step, you get a small dish).

This sweet little short was forwarded by Christophe Charron, and gives us a new hope for the space program. No more packaged food. Only the exquisite French cooking that leaves us drooling in hunger until we can take that first bite. And it’ll be as good as that first step we took on the Moon. A little home away from home, with an amazing view of home. Corentin Charron is a third year student at Supinfocom Arles (the same school that gave us A Fox Tale). Find more about this delicious work on Onectin.fr. Congrats to Corentin on a great piece of floating inspiration!

p.s. I’ll like to see these two eat in space. Thank goodness they didn’t choose peas. 😉

A Musical Pitch

Acappella is still pretty popular in college (I guess?), and there’s a new movie that sounds really good. I only found out about Pitch Perfect through a YouTube ad (which I normally hate), but I’ve got to say that I’m captivated with the sounds. Listen to it and see if you agree.

Fascination With Natural Flight

So, we all know that I love to fly. Have you ever wondered what it natural flight would be like? I found this video produced by the BBC that was incredible. Take a flight with a peregrine falcon as she flies with a camera strapped onto her. The twists, turns, and instantaneous banking are unlike anything that any plane can do. And how about flying through trees? Well, now you can by watching this clip. WOW!!!!

Truer Words Never Spoken

I really, really understand this button! If you’re anything like me, then you’re probably bouncing around from one book to another. Most times, I can finish a book in one sitting. But there are times when my head becomes diverted by that….oh, wow, did you read that intro?….yes, my favorite author just published a new book….ooohh, now I have an idea to write about…

And it goes on for a while, usually until I get ready for bed. I guess that’s the fate of anyone who has a passion for something, huh? So, what words make you think – truer words never spoken?

wtfnasa

Ever wondered what NASA has done to make your life awesome? Well, wonder no more, because there is another site, wtfnasa?, which aims to answer all of those burning questions that you’ve had on their successes and failures. See below for one of the hilarious answers when I clicked the Fail to Launch button:

This site is one person’s honest attempt at getting us to realize just wtf NASA has done for the world as a whole. NASA needs all the support that it can get to keep it viable (and that includes funding). If you really don’t know just how amazing it is that Curiosity is on Mars, then go check this site out. These answers are the results from expeditions just like Curiosity. And NASA has many more projects taking place all over our solar system.

Say “Thank you, NASA!

And thank you Boing Boing for the link.

An Enchanted Tree House

We dream as children, and those dreams always contain a sense of enchantment that completely captivates our imagination. So, when I came across this image on Reddit, I knew that someone kept their dreams alive into adulthood. Take a look at one of the enchanted tree houses that are part of The Enchanted Forest in BC, and tell me that you don’t want to run up and down those stairs! And to think that this all started from a dream of one couple, Doris and Ernest Needham. Fairytales can come to life.
