Selling Your Soul – To Be Adored

Because we all want to be adored, or at least be recognized…

Sometimes you’ll do almost anything, including selling your soul. That phrase selling your soul to the devil is a cautionary one, and yet we all fail to understand the implications.

  • How far is too far?
  • What am I willing to sacrifice in order to get the ultimate price?
  • Can I live with myself afterwards?

We’ve all reached that point when we ask ourselves these questions. And now here’s a song that gets where you’re at: The Stone Roses with I Wanna Be Adored.

Embrace The Hidden

I seriously admire people who can embrace the hidden quirkiness that make them so unique. In this video (taken back in 1981), gymnast Paul Hunt decides to embrace his inner girlyness by performing an uneven bar routine.

Most people would have a hard time to put it out there in front of everyone, unless they were extremely at ease with themselves or just a little crazy. Both traits are awesome, but in a form like this it’s simply irresistible.

More people need to do more of this and worry less about outer appearances. This is what makes people feel good. Someone who’s not afraid to embrace the hidden, even if it might set you up for ridicule. But there’s nothing to ridicule here. It’s absolutely perfect! Especially since he just keeps making it better. Seems like a really incredible guy.

How about some more:

Balance Beam?

Floor?

We need a lot more people to embrace their inner quirkiness. Just like this!

– Yep, Reddit again (in all of its awesomeness)

Frustration

Umair describes how I’ve been feeling lately:

Frustration…usually leads to verbal expression when you have the impression that you’re…STUCK. Quicksand. Black hole. Gaping void of nothingness. All trying to gorge themselves upon your delicate dermis. It doesn’t matter who the culprit is or how they are trying to accomplish the pain…physical, mental, or emotional…because it’s all the same. You are hurting. And when you hurt, you vocalize so that those in your immediate vicinity know that you’re suffering.

Sometimes, it’s a groan. Sometimes, it a frustrated word. And sometimes, it’s frustration in the form as seen above. Yep, we all know this word intimately. When we see it, we all get it. And we feel it along with you. Now that’s a powerful sound that manages to draw us together in shared frustration. It’s good to go through it with others who understand. Another way to collaborate emotionally.

And if that doesn’t work, then how about this (some Linkin Park):

Save The Antelope (and relieve your frustration)

For those of us with bleeding hearts, watching a nature film usually is too much to bear. Until now:

http://youtu.be/Ib163t5lFok

My dad sent me this hilarious clip (yes, yes, it’s been around for a while) that anyone who wants to save something (anything) from the clutches of “evil” (or food chain) will understand. Yes, the man managed to save the antelope. Think of what else we can do if we put our minds to it (well, except for keeping up with a cheetah or antelope…because, seriously, that’s pretty hard).

I’ll bet that you feel better now that you managed to relieve a little frustration by beating the odds, huh?

Black Sheep In New York

You probably remember Black Sheep from their amusement park ride work in Buenos Aires (Inception Park). Well, it looks like they’re back, but this time with amusement park rides in New York. Every time I see these guys in action, it leaves a smile on my face. We all love amusement parks, and probably have fond memories of certain rides that left us in that state of utter happiness.

But, I’ll also bet that none of us have ever taken a ride like this. Looks like fun, doesn’t it?

p.s. Hope that your Wednesday was full of happiness!

Up In The Sky – 77 Bombay Street

Some days, you just need a good pick-me-up song, and it looks like we may have found the perfect one. Up In The Sky by 77 Bombay Street was co-directed by Arnaud Janvier and Antoine Robert, using the adorable graphics of Antoine Rota.

Considering that this is a song that incorporates flight, well, how can I not love it. But the animation, lyrics, tone…everything just gives off an incredibly happy feel that permeates to your core. That warm fuzziness along with a brilliant smile is what makes creativity so powerful.Take a listen and see if you’re not smiling by the end of it. An awesome job by the entire team.

Fireflies

updated: new video from Youtube (original video in link below)

On the Hudson River (by yes18325)

It’s summertime and I can’t remember the last time that I got to see fireflies. I used to chase them when I was little, but haven’t lived in a region where they have them since. So, the next best thing is to find a video that shows them in all of their little illuminating beauty. Luckily, I found a few on YouTube (manthere are a lot of unrelated songs) and this one from the University of Nebraska Lincoln was my favorite (thanks for making this video). Enjoy a little taste of summer filled with magic as dusk approaches.

Fortune Revealed

Reveal by Eric Fortune

Eric Fortune has always been a favorite painter of mine. I found out through iheartmyart that Eric has a new show at LeBasse Projects that looks absolutely incredible. He’s known for his powerful depiction of humanity, but I think that he really caught the vulnerable side of it in this series.

This is a project called “A Life To Leave”, which depicts the transitions from a life we know to one completely unknown. I’m sure that a lot of us can relate as many are doing just that in order to find a life more controlled by us as individuals. The poignancy in this series is sure to touch those who are in the midst of this transition, as the feelings are depicted eloquently. I wish that I’d gone to see this show.

Why So Serious

Batman has been full of tragedy lately (well, always), yet we still ask ourselves, “Why so serious?” That this question was portrayed so brilliantly by the late Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight gives even more meaning to the question. Here was an actor who seemed to have his own personal demons to fight, though he had a life that looked amazing from the outside.

Nothing is as it seems. No matter what you have, it can be taken away. Especially things that you cherish. Nothing is safe, and the Batman story showed how that single question shaped every character in it, without exception. Bad and good are hard to distinguish when situations flip so easily to change their meanings. Life is just like that – never straightforward.

While the movies may be calling an end to the tale of the Dark Knight, his mission is far from over. As is ours. Because life goes on, and we constantly have to answer that question, “Why so serious?”

Looking around, the answer’s pretty easy to come by. Not everyone’s recognizing the symptoms that are making this question quite serious in today’s world. And yet the comic world is attacking that question endlessly, in many creative ways. And within all of that inspiration, there has to be an answer that we can use. Rose-tint is not something that the comics world pays attention to very often. It’s good that we have people who refuse to ignore the darkness, and even acknowledge that not everything dark is bad.

It’s always been about what we do with the darkness – use it or learn from it. That’s what defines us.

p.s. Sorry this post was heavy, but it was necessary given the question.

A Quiet Batman by Moebius

Monday are always a little slow to start, and this beautifully quiet moment in Batman’s life by Moebius (we miss you) is the perfect way to start out our week. Even caped crusaders need a moment to reflect – the only difference being the place they might choose to do so. Another reason why I love Batman so, as he embraces his moments of weakness in order to reach a firmer foundation on which to travel.
