Don’t Give Up

Piccsy sent me to another new site full of sayings, and this one really hit home because this is what I always end up doing when I’m ready to give up on something meaningful that consumed my life for so long:

Sure, it means that I still pursue what feels like the unachievable. But then, how do I know that I just haven’t pushed hard enough to improve on my idea of success?

I refuse to let my capabilities become my limitations.

Wonders by Yuta

Never have I seen a more perfect illustration about the amazing wonders of science as done by Yuta Onoda, a Japanese illustrator who is based in Canada. Is this the feeling that you get when you are looking at the wonders of our universe? I know it’s how I feel! – found through Behance

Stay Up…

Never has truer words been spoken. I’m one of those people known as a night owl who does her best work in those darkest of hours. Daylight isn’t necessarily a distraction. It just isn’t the comfortable setting I need to let my mind go. Annoyingly enough, I get a lot of ideas from dreams. It’s annoying because they can be so fleeting – even if you have a pen and paper handily nearby. I repeat key settings in my head so that I can write then down and build the thread back up. Unfortunately, I have so many partial stories laying around because they never make me feel as good as the dream did.

But staying up and pushing past your last reserves actually does give you an amazing creative burst that’s fun and nonsensical. You know that you just want to stop and lay your head down for one minute to stop the avalanche of ideas, but you’re afraid the train will stop crashing through that creative block you fear. The pillows laying about near you take on the texture of fluffy mounds of the lightest whipped cream you’ve ever seen. They develop personalities so that you can almost hear their beckoning to “put your head down on me. You know you want to. You know that you’re just sooooo tired…” But you ignore the temptresses because that idea is now glittering in your mind like a rare diamond.

Now, if I can actually get one of these stories to reach the same glorious levels that my dreams had, I would be the happiest creator in this world. Thanks god, insanity goes hand in hand with creativity. We all get our best ideas when we’re at our most silliest states. It’s the best part of creativity!!!

Lost Children

In Brazil, Rogério Puhl is making a statement about Lost Children in a series that explores the boogiemen in kids lives, and perhaps how they try to deal with them. We all know that when a boogieman came to scare us, we used our imaginations to try to make our world safe again. But the monsters may have gotten a whole lot bigger and harder to deal with, so we need to help these kids find their way into the happy light. This will be a project to keep an eye out for.

Sea Recycling

I got a chance to delve more into Street Art News, since it’s been a while, and found another incredibly beautiful piece by ZED1 called Sea Recycling. The fresh colors show how vibrant life is within our oceans, and what will happen if we don’t protect it. We live on a planet that has multiple eco-systems that rely on one another. If one suffers, then we all will suffer from the hurt. ZED1 is using a soft touch to get out an painful message that we need to hear. There are successes around the world where we have decided to stop put our priorities back towards the greater good. And there are disasters in the making because of a changing global climate. It’s going to take every single one of us to make a difference before it’s too late.

– Another beautiful message from Street Art News (check out some more incredible art on their blog)

Helping Arms

And speaking of amazing messages on the street, Herakut has finished a new welcome message in Mannheim, Germany that is heartwarming and promising. The title is “Sisters helping brothers helping sisters…” and it’s all about helping arms holding up the next person. The beautiful vision shows that a community is created when we brace one another openly, no matter what our individual backgrounds. Each person latching onto another makes this community look like a beautiful jigsaw puzzle that is complete with an incredible image to see at the end.

I can’t claim to understand those who feel that segregation, intolerance, and protectionism is the answer to a strong community, much less a country. At this point in our history, there is probably no one out there that is a full-blooded anything. We all come are interrelated and this is the key to a strong union. Herakut simply helped remind us that the answer is really right in front of our eyes.

A New Look At Immigration

One of my favorite street artists, Blu, has once again made a very powerful and painful statement on the subject of immigration. Every country in this world has people trying to either leave it or illegally enter it. He wanted to make a statement at this town in Morocco that borders on Spain, and you can see why when you visit his blog. There are a few pictures at the beginning of his work on this piece that shows what the borders of Europe look like to an outsider. Think of the Great Wall of China only made up of miles and miles of electrified metal. But it’s not until you look at the close up of this image that looks like the EU flag that you see the true meaning of the word “hopeless”.

Those of us who are lucky enough not to have to face daily threats to our lives don’t understand the desperation that these people feel. Their only crime is bring born in a country that doesn’t care for them, so they look for the hope of a good life elsewhere. The messages of chance that democratic countries spread doesn’t take into account the realities of a false PR because the message isn’t meant to be an invitation. So, more and more people are standing up to governments around the world who are not practicing what they preach. The people are your most valuable treasures, because they are what makes a country strong, and not the money that you take from them. Life isn’t some financial transaction, and most governments have forgotten this as they rush to strengthen the GDP balance sheets.

This type of message will stay necessary, and artists like Blu will do their best to spread the idea that we are all looking for the same better world together. And we are willing to stand up and fight for that reality against the most horrid laws and conditions placed in our path. This scene is just one more result from unlimited corruption that is running rampant everywhere. Yes, economics tells us a story, but not a complete one. This image tells us the rest.

Your B of A by…Guess Who?

Looks pretty real, huh? Is it really B of A reaching out to us? Guess who did it…

This link (prepare to laugh) is the latest hijinks thought up by the incredible Yes Men. It all started out with the customary announcement that any good business does to inform their shareholders of a new change in operations. But this change was more than a little eye-opening because they were partnering with the taxpayers to revamp their business model. And as you can see from the brilliant user ads above and on the site, the taxpayers took their new role to heart.

The intro letter from the man himself, Moynihan, starts off with such warmth that you have to believe that this change of heart is for real:

Dear Fellow American,

Welcome to your Bank of America.

Today, it’s time to acknowledge that our Bank isn’t working anymore—not just for the market, but for people, our real customers.

The Yes Men have done it again, and did it with brilliance. The day that this kind of thought really does occur in the banking industry will be a miracle. If you’re into lotteries, that’s the day I’d go buy one because everything has frozen over (not just Hell).

Stay Curious

No one looks looks or acts exactly alike. We all have our own styles. So instead of spending so much time giving someone the evil eye because they don’t fit your idea of normal, how about you go right up to them and get to know them a little better. An open mind and an open heart can lead to a whole lot more openness to the world around you. Curiosity is just like love. The more you have, the more you find, and the more you share, then the more it grows and keeps you feeling alive.

So stay curious…

– thanks Piccsy and in all directions for this wonderful moment
