The Tube Open Movie

We are all about sharing in this new world of ours that is struggling to be set free. The people who are walking on this new path are the brave explorers who are willing to give their all in creating something that will give even more back to us. Boing Boing just came across a Kickstarter project called The Tube Open Movie, which is an ambitious project by a whole group of people to create an open animated movie that is built on open source and open dreams. It’s based on the ancient Gilgamesh poem but with a modern twist. A lot of work has already been done, and they need everyone’s help to make it come alive. Go check out this project and support if you want to be part of history. The final piece will be released under Creative Commons Share-Alike, so that it grows in ways that we can only dream about.

What an awesome idea whose time is finally here.

This Is What’s Stopping Us

This is what’s stopping us from creating and innovating, along with a lot of Big Money and tunnel-visioned protectionist companies:

We’re all frustrated with our politicians. I’d say that we Americans are furious with our Congress. Considering that this is the lowest ranking Congress ever in an administration that isn’t even remotely transparent, we need all the help that we can get to familiarize ourselves with our politicians’ track records before the next election. While there are a lot of resources scattered that gives us bits and pieces, it’s not an easy task to get the full picture of an incredibly complex network of campaign funding and support.

Sopatrack is trying to change that picture so that we can easily see which politician is voting with the money they receive.  Now we get a clearer picture of those politicians who are working for the system, and those who are working for the people. This is the kind of tool that needs to be used by every American of or near voting age, so that we can uncover and stop the corruption which is killing this country.

Use this tool. Read citizen journalists. Follow mainstream news. Uncover new people who are working on ways to fix our broken system. If we don’t all do this together now, there might not be anything left to work on later.

– Thanks again Boing Boing

Remember This Moment And Dream

update: well, it looks like I got the wrong shuttle – this is Discovery and I should acknowledge them all!

This is an image that space enthusiasts should hold to their heart. Not because it’s the final flight for the amazing space shuttle program, Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Endeavor, Atlantis, and Enterprise. But because we are looking at the battle-scarred veteran who was brave enough to fly out into the deep dark unknown and explore its depths with us along for the ride. It inspired us to dream that we could reach the farthest expanses of land on another planet, or float amongst a sky full of diamonds. We saw our home beneath us, and the universe in front of us. We ventured with tentative steps into the future, knowing that our connections are everywhere. We were not afraid to dream. And we should never be afraid or allow ourselves to be suspended from our dreams. If someone tells you “No”, and yet you believe in your dream, then persevere through all of the toiling until you reach it yourself. Our dreams are our most precious when we’re the ones to reach them ourselves. Of course, we’ll have help, but that’s ok because those who help you are also reaching for their dreams. It just so happened that they were both similar enough to fit like puzzle pieces.

Follow in Atlantis’ their steps and dream!

– Thanks Boing Boing for the poignant memory

Inside The Rock Poster just put out the news on this exhibit, In The Garage, that is full of memories that we cherish as kids and as adults. Well, this exhibit at the Blank Space Gallery is full of those memories by many who relate to the Geek Culture (who doesn’t?). Art On A Roll

There are some people that love to travel and some people who love to draw. Then there’s the Sketching Backpacker who loves to draw, paint, collage, and whatever his way through the world. You should go to his Tumblr blog to see just how much he loves to do both, because it’s like looking at a moving artistic travel diary. It’s obvious that he’s building some great memories while he completes his piece. And it’s a reminder to grab life by both hands and enjoy it to its fullest, because no one knows what tomorrow might bring.

A chance of sunshine with a little splash of red, perhaps?

Jonathan’s Back With A Coke

Jonathan Mak Long, who gave us that gorgeous Steve Jobs tribute, is now back and working with a Coke. Ogilvy & Mather China managed to track Jonathan down in Hong Kong and asked him to work on an unofficial project called “Sharing a Coke”. For obvious reasons, everyone including Coca Cola is impressed with the powerful simplicity that seems to permeate through Jonathan’s designs. Isn’t it an incredible piece of art, and it’s from a student. See, the power to create is within us all at every step through our lives. Just open up your mind’s eye, and let your inspiration drive you to create something tangible and lasting. Sharing is what it’s all about, whether it’s a Coke, a smile, or a personal creation.

And while you’re at it, check out more of Jonathan’s work and life on his blog. He’s definitely going places.

A Perfect Ad

It isn’t often that you come across a perfect ad that is all encompassing in its simplicity. I think that I just found it, thanks to Reddit:

It’s what’s needed for every single problem that we need to address in this world.

So pure, so simple, so right…so necessary.

Perspective

I guess I’m on the concept of perspective today. So how about this one?

I know that it would suck to be the one to fall into the cage, but I guess we would never think of it this way, huh? Yup, it’s all about which side you’re looking from. It’s good practice to always see things from different perspectives, so that you won’t be so surprised when the outcome hits.

Making It Through Anything

I somehow stumbled on this story when I was browsing through Reddit, and was totally amazed by this boy’s story. Choi Sung-Bong is only 22, but his life has been anything but easy. Left in an orphanage at 3 and running away from beatings at 5, he’s lived most of his life on the streets. He sold gum and energy drinks while trying to stay safe, until he came across a classical singer in a night club who inspired him to start singing. He managed to find a teacher who taught him for free after he went to see just how Choi lived. And then Choi entered the Korea’s Got Talent show and won second place. Talk about inspirational!

Suddenly, my life seems a whole lot easier than what Choi had to live through. And frankly, if he can work hard to reach his dreams, then none of us really has an excuse to not do the same. I didn’t even make it to the one minute mark of his singing before I was crying. I really hope that he goes far and never has to let go of his dreams. What an incredible story!

p.s. Yes, I know that I’m late with this story (he was discovered last year), but I just found it too powerful to not share.

Celebration of Holi Color

Have you ever wanted to see a celebration of color? To be mesmerized by explosions of cascading, glittering bursts from a rainbow that allows you to swim within its depth while your feet are firmly placed on the ground? The absolute joy that it embraces can be felt through the lens through which we observe. We are all alive in this small clip of time known as Holi in the Hindu culture. After reading about it, I can completely understand why it’s such a welcome celebration. These are the few days where the barriers are torn down, and everyone comes together to share in the beginning of Spring, the birth cycle of nature. How fitting that such an exuberant time is filled with the same colors that carpet the landscape all across our beautiful planet. And how thankful that the crew from Variable was there to capture all of this magic and share it with us.

I am truly in AWE of this video!!!! Thank you, Variable, for these moments of pure magic.

p.s. Ever want to take a look at the behind-the-scenes of a film crew. The team who shot this video is part of Variable, and they have an incredible blog that shows static shots of them working, along with finished products of their labor. This is the life of art creating art, and it’s a really wonderful ride as you go through their timeline.

– Thanks for finding this beautiful energy, Colossal!
