A Child Speaks

If we adults cannot communicate about topics of vital importance, then maybe we should rewatch this video of Severn Cullis-Suzuki speaking at the Rio Earth Summit back in 1992. There isn’t much to add to such eloquence except, THANK YOU Severn. She’s also known as “The Girl Who Silenced the World for 6 Minutes”, but to me that does her a great injustice. Her words will resound forever. We shouldn’t have to hear this from a 9-year old!

Thank goodness for so many wonderful people like her, who are working to make a difference for us all and for this beautiful planet that we call home.

  1. My husband found that video a couple of weeks ago and we watched it, speechless, and went to be with a sour taste in our mouths. But I’m not a negative nor cynical type of person, I’m realist and maybe a little bit optimist so I think we can make this change happen (yes, I’ve been reading Nicolas Sampson’s post Spin Doctor: The World Is Like A Pint Glass 😉 )

Yes, I now refer to this video if I ever have a question about my actions. It’s interesting to watch the adult expressions as she made her plea to us all. I wouldn’t have been able to look her in the eye.

I find that I’m a cross between a realist and an idealist with bouts of optimism that won’t let me give up on most things until I’ve explored as many available avenues as possible. So that makes me a fluctuating 3/4 full (ha ha)? Nicolas is an amazing thinker and writer, isn’t he?! He gives me inspiration to keep pushing my writing further each day.
