More SOPA Info

Updated: The new alternative that was created and supported by both Senators Wyden and Issa is now being covered by EFF. Here’s the link to their initial take on the OPEN act: click here. Be sure to download it, read it, and make your comments. They want to hear from us all.

And updated again: The original link to the graphic in this post has been removed at the request of Business Insurance Blog (who I want to ensure gets the credit for this in-depth and necessary graphic) so that any readers who use the link won’t get a 404 return. Here’s a prime example of an awesome provider who wants their readers to be satisfied. If you’re in the business of any kind of service (which is every business), then here’s a prime example of caring for your customer. We need more people and businesses to think and act like the Business Insurance Blog!

I’ve been talking quite a bit about the draconian Internet legislation that the US Congress is trying to turn into law, SOPA and Protect IP. You can read my previous posts, or you can take a look at this infographic created by Business Insurance Blog (update: link deleted per request). It’ll give you the entire gist of the battle that’s been waging for awhile, and it’s getting critical as SOPA will be set for a vote this month while Protect IP is being temporarily halted by Senator Wyden with the help of americancensorship.org.

And if you think that there isn’t much to be worried about as we’re still a democratic country (?), well, take a closer look at another bill that did pass: National Defense Authority Act. I’ll bet you’re feeling something now, aren’t you? Hopefully, President Obama will do the right thing and veto this one, as well as SOPA and Protect IP (in case they get that far).
