B & W Simplicity

If you want to capture atmosphere in an image, I’ve always loved the B & W approach that captures the simplicity of the image because it’s constructed of its most basic parts. German photographer Kai Ziehl has captured some powerful emotions in all of his images, though there is something about this image that draws me. The combination of a strong architectural structure that shelters the walker from the elements speaks to a myriad of feelings including loneliness, tranquility, strength, permanence, and a cleansing of an artificial world by nature.

Check out his site because he has an enormous collection of imagery that attest to an artist’s eye that is able to capture the rhythms that we humans build into our world, which have a beauty all their own. Glad that My Modern Met featured Kai, because he deserves it!
