Global Voices

Before you heard this Ted talk, did you realize that we’re not getting a whole lot of news about the world in world news? Most of us do, but we really don’t get the level of imbalance that we encounter in our news sources. Well, Ethan Zuckerman wants us to move beyond these physical constraints that our old systems refuse to let go, and in many cases are making worse for global education. Ethan needs help in finding those who wish to be bridge figures who will be able to open our conversations using different cultural voices with common threads that teach and tempt us to continue to learn about our entire world.

Xenophiles are people who are interested in learning about foreign cultures, languages, or people. Ethan wants more voices to join the still fledgling band of people who are trying to turn real media into world media, so that we can get an accurate image of what’s going on all around our world, without our imbedded cultural biases. Groups like Global Voices are already starting the process. But many more are needed so that we can achieve real balance and create a truly global civilization. Who wants to help? I know I do!

And here’s a side treat: Ethan describes the history of the Internet in less than 10 minutes. It’s completely entertaining!
