Just Because

Today, I’m going to try something new. I’m going to pick whatever triggers my mind and just go with it. And whatever I do, it’s going to be done with no intentions. I know how hard that is since everything is done for a reason. In a world full of calculated moves, it’s hard to remember what it’s like to just be. For example, since I’ve taken my first steps into social networking, all I seem to do is work. Work at learning the technologies, work at understanding the ramifications, work at generating the cost-vs-benefit ratio, and on and on. But this work isn’t helping me to connect with the most important person, me. It’s actually going against my initial intent of starting down this path, and that’s to unwind so that I can create. It’s really hard to go against your personality type, because it’s so ingrained in your DNA. But I plan to nip it in the bud before another passion loses steam. Because passion is the soul of creation, and it’s necessary for its survival.

I’m sure that everyone has a story about a passion that’s been derailed simply because intentions became thwarted. I started out with kung fu because I needed a release mechanism from all of the stress that I was experiencing. Initially, I was actively engaged in the learning process because I could feel a new connection to my body that opened my mind. My long lost passion for writing experienced a resurgence because I’d reconnected with me. But adulthood has a way of getting in the way of simply being. Soon, the expectations of performing at the higher belt levels and competition took away the joy. It finally became such a chore that I left before my passion for kung fu was crushed into oblivion. I still practice on my own, and am slowing regaining the happiness of doing kung fu just because I want to.

We’re good at activities as children because we only have to pay attention to what’s happening at that specific moment in time. It’s easy to play because our hearts and souls are involved.  But with age comes responsibility, and once our blinders are removed, we see the entire overwhelming world. We’re so saturated with all of that responsibility, we lose sight of why we started the passion. Now, I’m going back to basics. It’s what everyone learns when they’re studying something new.

Find your inspiration and go with it. This is one of those times when thinking about yourself can be a good thing, and expectations don’t get in the way.
