Banksy Swat Truck

Here’s an oldie (Swat Truck – 2006) by Banksy, but it seems even more appropriate today given what’s been going on everywhere. Leave it to the children to find the innocence in the most extreme of situations.

Thought for the day: Don’t leave your childhood behind. Even if it’s for a moment, try to inject some creativity into our surrounding reality. It will make all the difference to this world! Because we could really use a lot of difference right about now. Reality has definitely not been creative of late.

Peace in 1969

Times were tumultuous in the 1960’s, and Northern Ireland in 1969 was a time of tragic proportions. When society has to fight for its survival, then we have to look at what we’re calling important in our lives. The image above is one of many taken by Gilles Caron, and it gives us a sobering reminder that we are the ones who work to make peace happen, and the ones who are the front lines that protect peace when the hunger of power tries to remove it without our permission. It’s never a clear conversation, and there’s many hidden factors, but it’s up to us all to ensure that we keep the right conversation in the forefront of society. Because if we don’t, then scenes like this become common place, and that’s the most tragic of all.

p.s. When you look at all of the images taken by Gilles, you’ll notice that everyone is part of everyday society, or status quo. So, no, protests aren’t only done by the fringe or the hippies. They’re done when people become desperate.

Global Voices

Before you heard this Ted talk, did you realize that we’re not getting a whole lot of news about the world in world news? Most of us do, but we really don’t get the level of imbalance that we encounter in our news sources. Well, Ethan Zuckerman wants us to move beyond these physical constraints that our old systems refuse to let go, and in many cases are making worse for global education. Ethan needs help in finding those who wish to be bridge figures who will be able to open our conversations using different cultural voices with common threads that teach and tempt us to continue to learn about our entire world.

Xenophiles are people who are interested in learning about foreign cultures, languages, or people. Ethan wants more voices to join the still fledgling band of people who are trying to turn real media into world media, so that we can get an accurate image of what’s going on all around our world, without our imbedded cultural biases. Groups like Global Voices are already starting the process. But many more are needed so that we can achieve real balance and create a truly global civilization. Who wants to help? I know I do!

New Yorker Covers by Eric Drooker

Eric Drooker makes covers for New Yorker magazine, and I just loved this particular cover that he did. Somehow, this would be a portion of what my heaven would look like.  : )  What about you?

Darth Junk

Honestly, can you believe that this started out with two antique spoons? I curiously clicked on a Reddit tweet and found this beautiful piece that makes Darth Vadar look elegant.

Here’s the imgur junk / Reddit page that shows the transformation from two lonely and forgotten spoons to this visual masterpiece. Although I’ve got to say that I’m also partial to the pre-black paint treatment.

This is what creativity (and a blow torch) brings to even a simple utensil. WOW!

– going through the comments, I found that Alain Bellino created this and has a slideshow of Darth Junk’s creation on Behance.

What We Sound Like – SolarBeat

Have you ever thought about what our solar system would sound like. Well, it sounds like someone actually did think about this question, and created this beautiful piece called SolarBeat. Whitevinyl submitted this to 4chan, and I wanted to share it with you so that you can hear how beautiful our solar system sounds like in the terms of a frequency symphony. Once again, the marriage of science and art creates something gorgeous. More proof that you can’t have one without the other.

See

Thought for the day: Just SEE. It’s not a matter of understanding what you’re seeing with your eyes, but what you’re really feeling what you see with your soul. Because once it impacts and reverberates around on the inside, then you’re really seeing as it’s intended to be seen. Now’s a good time, since we’re still on a high from Christmas and still not through the holiday season. Let’s see what you see when you’re vision isn’t clouded by life.

Illuminated

Light is so magical, and I found this video, Illuminated, that Isca Mayo did for his final project at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. See the meeting of two species that gift one another with light in unexpected ways. The ending is so adorable. Enjoy!

And Isca, amazing job on this wonderful piece that tells a beautiful story of giving.

O Divine Night

I couldn’t think of a more appropriate find than this thoughtful modern remake of the story of Christmas. O Divine Night is another Eliot Rausch and Phos Pictures collaboration, and just as powerful as his last video story, Last Minutes With Oden.

Have yourself a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
