Coke Happiness Factory is Back!

I stumbled onto a reminder from Behance about one of my favorite tv commercials and had to go find out how many were made. I found these and thought that you’d enjoy them as much as I did. These should help to get us into a happy mood for THE upcoming holiday. Don’t stay up too late or Santa can’t drop by! ; )

Classical Landscape

Light has a power that permeates into our souls. No matter the intensity, it can be felt so deeply that it moves us. Andrew Brooks, a photographer from Manchester UK, knows all about its power and how to use it to create a mind-blowing image. His latest classical landscape imagery captured for the BBC Philharmonic, and shown on Behance, will be used to create a series of posters for their upcoming season. I seriously thought that these images were haunting until I actually took a look at this site and proceeded to let my jaw hit the floor. WHOA!!! If you’re like me, you won’t be moving until you’ve seen all of his images. They are THAT good. And I also saw on his blog that he’s released an ebook, New Worlds, for the i-gadgets.

How To Destroy Angels

http://youtu.be/vCdQuZzjtFY

Now that you’ve listened to How To Destroy Angel’s “Drowning” (thanks GreenvilleGuitar), how are you feeling? Yes, all you Trent Reznor lovers (me too). There’s news about him again. I just read a Guardian UK article talking about what he’s been up to. First Social Network, and now Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. His personal life got fuller with a wife in 2009 and a son in 2010. Then he combined with his wife, Mariqueen Maandig (formerly with West Indian Girl), and Atticus Ross to form their band, How To Destroy Angels, with an EP release in 2010 (free download from their site – it’s insane). And soon, there’ll be a debut album. Are you as giddy as I am to hear new music from the master of soul-pounding rhythm? I miss NIN.

A República

Isn’t this graphic design catalogue, designed by Rita Cruz Neves, gorgeous? She based in Lisbon, Portugal, and I’ve got to say that the history there is doing something good to her work. I love turn-of-the-century imagery, and this catalogue for the Museu Nacional de Arqueologia is just full of this type of romantic imagery.

But if you look at the details of this catalogue, which can be seen at Behance, you’ll see that she’s got an amazing eye for detail down to the most minute levels. The paper stock, the classic fonts, and the beautiful colors make you feel like you’re looking at an antique book that has somehow been protected from the ravages of time.

Rita’s style is enmeshed in the complexity of the finest line art, but modernized with a vibrancy of tones and bold colors that make you want to look close at every artistic nuance. Classic design at its finest!

The Man With The Beautiful Eyes

http://youtu.be/n9WI9Zn0lRs

I just found the most beautiful video because of a tweet by @Thesoogie (of Cabbit Y Tutelary art fame). It was created by 4mationsTV to immortalize a Charles Bukowski poem. Nothing to say but watch and enjoy. Beautiful words. Beautiful art. The Man With the Beautiful Eyes strikes you right in the soul.

Thanks again, Soogie, for this treat. And by the way, I’m so looking forward to seeing your final short when you and your amazing team finally finish it.

Floating Blu

I saw Blu‘s previous work with it’s outspoken message on capitalism, but this one is just too powerful not to show. BA Street Art just released photos of his latest piece and it’s beautiful and frightening at the same time. Blu’s captured the stillness of outer space with the sheer scale of humanity lost due to our own errors. There’s no way that anyone won’t get what he’s trying to say. And if they don’t, well, they need to grow a heart or something. This is political messaging in art at its best. Consider my mind blown. How about you?

@neiltyson Says…

I saw this in my Tweet feed a few days ago, and am still chuckling over it. Since we all need more fun moments, here’s our fun moment courtesy of @schuylercollier and @neiltyson. Proof that this particular astrophysicist has a hilarious sense of humor. As always, Neil deGrasse Tyson puts a smile on our faces.

And on a side note, I would love to meet that puppy… ; )

Sophie Hunger

http://youtu.be/Ngen_jfWB04

I was swimming around Ted and stumbled onto an amazing singer, Sophie Hunger, and her passionate bandmates. Looking further, I found the music video for City Lights, which is the one song that I seriously fell in love with because of her haunting voice and the accompanying mesmerizing rhythms that completely cascade over you with beautiful life. Take a listen, and prepare to smile. So rich and powerful.

The band members are Sophie Hunger (vocals & more), Michael Flury (trombone), Christian Prader (flute, guitar), Alberto Mayo (drums, percussion), and Simon Gerber (bass). Check out their 2010 Ted performance as well, because it’s amazing.

The Glory of 2011

Isn’t this a gorgeous and powerful image? Shikhei Goh of Indonesia won the grand prize for the 2011 National Geographic Photography Contest with this beautiful image of a dragonfly hanging on with all of his might when a sudden rain storm appears. The colors are so warm and alive, even in a wet environment. Dragonflies are simply wonderful to look at, and this image is mesmerizing in all of its glory. Congratulations on your well-deserved win, Shikei!
