Éco Tome 2

http://vimeo.com/32070385

Barbara Canepa and Soleil Edition just made an announcement of a new release, Éco Tome 2, by Guillaume Bianco. I’ve been a big fan of this French publisher for a long time as their stable of creators are simply INCROYABLE. Take a look at this short video clip of some of the scenes from the book that become haunting points in time that leisurely pass by the heroine of this book. As always, their animations for the book release are as creative as the books themselves. You can find out more of Soleil Productions from their site, and find out where you can get this book and more.

Your Age Is Not A Problem

Natalie Warne is young but is driven by a belief: Anonymous Extraordinaries are the power behind any movement. She’s absolutely right about that. Look around you. See a project, any project, trying to come to life. Is it the belief of the creator that brings it into being? Partially. Alone, that creator would never be successful in reaching that dream. It’s when anonymous people start to rally behind it that success becomes possible. Continue reading

The Might Pythagasaurus

I got to spend some time on Imaginary Foundation’s blog when I stumbled on this hilarious creation by Aardman. This is for those of you who love math. And this is also for those of you who really believe that dinosaurs aren’t smart (though they do have impulse control problems, it seems). HA HA HA!

p.s. check out some more of Aardman’s great work on their site. You’ll recognize their style from the Hotels.com commercials, but they’ve done sooo much more.

Artists Speak With Images

Never let it be said that people are not creative when battling a problem. Since the start of the protests happening in the US and worldwide, there has been rampant abuse by authority figures. Yet, no matter how they try to stop the outcries, the situation leaves them grasping only air…or in this case a can of pepper spray. The pepper spraying started around the country since day 1 of the Occupy movement, and it was done by police who are clearly misidentifying the threat scenario. One too many practice runs against their own phobias, or maybe they play too much Nintendo?

Well, the world is setting its voice free again against police brutality. I saw this link in my Twitter feed and practically fell of my chair from laughing. And it’s being done with a lot of creativity and a tongue-in-cheek approach that is hilarious and yet a sign of our times. Nothing is sacred to the police, and the feelings are being returned in all of its technicolor glory. Check out the Pepper Spraying Cop Tumblr page, and maybe even add your two cents. Well, your image of your two cents, in this case. This is freedom of expression at its most clever!

p.s. I used to give the police some benefit of the doubt, but it’s becoming impossible to justify their actions…especially when they border on the criminally insane.

Occupy Berkeley’s Response

Here’s an image from redstartstudio’s video of Occupy Berkeley’s response to continued police brutality of protesters and the repeated removal of their tents:

All over this country (and all over the world), the Occupy protesters use one specific tool as an example of their freedom of speech: tents. And yet, all over this country, city after city tries to stop these protests by using the law. Yet no matter how many legal barriers are thrown up by officials, the Occupy movement keeps throwing up their responses against the legal tap dance. November 17th is already a powerful date in history, and yet it is a day where student’s voices for justice have been heard the loudest:

  • International Student’s Day
  • Athen’s Polytechnic Uprising, which also create N17
  • Velvet Revolution begins
  • World Peace Day started by Peaceguy’s grassroots effort
  • Articles of Confederation submitted for colonies to form United States (thrown in for irony – students of democracy) Continue reading

Occupy Has A New Meaning

Here’s The New School Reoccupied spreading the universal message that you cannot evict an idea whose time has come:

Occupy means “to engage the attentions or energies of”, and this is a very active verb. Just like the actions of the Occupy movement. But it is taking on a new meaning as people are literally trying to occupy everything without hesitation. Some of it is being done tongue-in-cheek, and much of it is taking on a much bigger concept.

After that initial Adbuster call, occupy now has a new meaning. Now, it’s defining a move for reinvention or renewal, though others are creating their own direction of action. If something isn’t working, then occupy it to change it into something that does work. This thought was jogged (partly) by a great design article written by August Heffner for Imprint. August rightly points out that the many tools that Occupy uses does tie together into a cohesive and powerful set of actions for the type of change that they’re seeking. This is an experiment in a new form of democracy where activity comes in many forms, but always moves towards a single goal. Continue reading

Occupy HOPE

Occupy Hope is Shepard Fairey’s statement of support for the Occupy movement, and it’s as straightforward yet nebulous as those dissenters claim the movement is. Taking the Guy Fawkes mask that has become synonymous with revolution, he paints the protesters as they are: hopeful yet wary (just look at the eyes). It’s also interesting that he paints The 99% in the same manner that his original poster had depicted the President, but with a message being directed to the man in that original poster.

As he states in his post, “Change is not about one election, one rally, one leader, it is about a constant dedication to progress and a constant push in the right direction.” So, yes, even that most famous of outspoken political activists realizes that we have to figure out a way of fixing a broken system without throwing away “the baby with the bath water”. The time leading up to the 2012 Presidential election should be interesting, as the voice of the Occupy movement continues to grow louder across the country and around the world. Let’s hope that this time is taken to use their spirit and voices to develop the next necessary step: actual reconstruction.

OWS Loves The World

I thought that I would end the week with an amazing montage uploaded by A Giant Load of Gibberish. It’s been a rough week for the entire Occupy movement, and in particular for its source #OWS who lost their home after some more heinous actions by the NYPD in the middle of the night on November 15, 2011. But not only have they persevered, they also came back with a force of over 32,000 on November 17th as they marched on Union Square for another international day of action (N17). But there was one large moment (among many) in NY that was a beautiful love message to the world:

A Weakness Leads To…

http://youtu.be/BwB8L092ZzU

Ok, I have a weakness for vampires. And that leads to me watch and read pretty much anything (well, almost) that has a vampire in it. As I was watching Twilight, I caught this awesome song that was playing during the thunder baseball game scene. God, this is an insanely great song and the rhythm…yummmm! Sinks right into your veins and makes you feel it – like any good song will -> ALIVE.

@rdopping is right – turn it up LOUD!!!

So, here’s Muse’s Supermassive Black Hole. And its got an ironic title and words considering what we’ve endured this week: Dear Congress & Big Money, this line is for you (all of you): You’re the queen of the superficial, and how long before you tell the truth = REJECT SOPA

(Sorry but it was too much to resist! ; p)
