Forget Lemonade…

We all know the phrase, “If life deals you lemons, make lemonade”. And we can all attest to the fact that we probably have made some tasty lemonade in our time. Some of us have probably made such strange recipes, that we’ve forgotten that lemons were the base. So why stop there? Success is sweet! Continue reading

Rebooting Civilization

Perhaps I’m feeling a bit of an alarmist today, but after watching the rerun of Earth 2100 followed by reading about the G8 pushing a “civilized internet“, it’s really hard not to be a bit worried. The worry part is pretty obvious, but there’s also a sense of hope because of concepts like this : Can We Rewire the Internet? So, I’m using this as my sounding board about this war that’s embroiling our world, the war between two dominant ideologies that both think they’re right. Isn’t it possible for two such divergent theories to find a middle ground so that we can all concentrate on the business of living? There’s no one way that’s right, and forcing a single way that’s intolerant of all is inhumane and uncivilized – even if it is status quo. Basically, this war doesn’t mean anything to our future because it has to end in order for us to have one. Continue reading

What’s In A Formula?

I was watching an episode (Sacrifice) of “Numb3rs” last night (or was it early this morning) that got me thinking. From a non-conformist’s point-of-view, a scenario which allows a “simple” mathematical formula to calculate the probability of anyone’s success in life seems a little too omnipotent in my book. While I firmly believe that science provides immense benefits to our daily lives, I also choose to question anything that requires absolute belief with little to no tangible proof. Sure there are people out there who have such blind faith. Unfortunately, I’m not such a person. I’m probably one of those walking dichotomies that just likes to frustrate the norm, though it’s not purposeful. I think that it probably has much to do with my upbringing as a multi-ethnic with a view of multiple worlds. Science and spirit walk hand-in-hand here. Continue reading

Thinking through a crisis

Today, my husband was hit with an emergency that set his whole schedule back. It made for a room full of irritated bees until we could move past the negative emotions. Considering that I’m also our company I.T. specialist (elected by circumstances), I’ve been down this road too many times to count. It struck a chord that the steps that I normally take also fit just about any crisis situation (except for the apocalyptic – then there’s no afterwards). Since a crisis falls into that nebulous time frame when black holes take on a whole new reality, I thought that I’d write the following to put things into perspective:

(insert drum roll here) Continue reading

Who’s Your Superman?

Well, this seemed like a timely question considering that today is that manliest of holidays: Father’s Day. Before I get started, a simple heartfelt message:

Happy Father’s Day, Dad!!!

Because this month also happens to be one of my “manly” celebratory months with Father’s Day and my husband’s birthday, it raised the question, “Who’s your Superman”?

Michael, you're not forgotten! We miss you.

Beliefs

We all have them, and we all fiercely defend them. Our beliefs color who we are as people, and how we perceive everything around us. It gives our gut instincts an extra boost so that we pay attention to the hidden messages, and reach a conclusion that will help us move forward. Whether we choose to live our lives around our beliefs, or simply integrate them into some of our actions show who we are as individuals. If all else fails, we can turn to these beliefs to sustain us through the perils of life. Continue reading

It’s Almost That Time Again

Yup, San Diego Comic Con is around the corner! Tickets sold out really early (like almost after last year’s Con), so you lucky people who are going…have an amazing time for the rest of us! There are always so many insane pieces that come out of SDCC, and this year seems to be no different. Here are some early notices: Continue reading
