World In A Bubble

We always see the world through a camera lens. But what if we looked at the world in a soap bubble through a lens? I wonder what it would look like? All of our most cherished places contained within a bubble which is luminescent, yet fragile and short-lived. Tom Storm is just the photographer to show us this amazing sight. He wants us to change our perspective. And he’s traveling around the world to get images from every possible location on our planet. If you want to see more, or help the World In A Bubble project, then go to his site and take a look at his images. Buy a few, and you’ll be helping this amazing project continue. This is a beautiful view of our world, and we can all help him to create them! How inspiring!!!

Working With Slogan Humor

I’ll bet that those corporations never thought that they would see their slogans used in quite this way. The New Condoms project is letting the, ummm, user put his money where his mouth is…so to speak. The project was developed by Just Some Food For Thought, an artist otherwise known as Max Wright. The humor is inescapably delicious! I’d keep my eye on this artist because he has a lot of thoughts, and is currently running a lot of other projects (I’d put down a number, but it’ll probably just increase).

Heroes Are All Around Us

Ben Turnbull wants to show those everday heroes around us in the light that they deserve. His current art exhibition, Supermen – An Exhibition of Heroes, opened at the Eleven Fine Art Gallery on September 16, 2011 and runs through October 22, 2011. In honor of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, he wanted to show the true heroism of those who serve the public by using comic art of those superheroes we grew up with in a collage that depicts the true superheroes of our day. The red, white, and blue colors chosen signify their patriotism and dedication to the people of the United States that they serve.

As Turnbull says, “Without the need of a phone-booth or a revolving door these true patriots donned their iconic costumes and sacrificed life and limb for what they believed in. With every cut-comic hero and dialogue I hope to bring out the true merits of the Brave and the Bold in their fight for Truth, Justice and the American Way.”

Doodling Is Good

Doodling is good, and Sunni Brown wants us to believe it! She defines, “doodling is to make spontaneous marks to help yourself think”, which is obviously a good thing during those times when there’s an abundance of information. Visualization through drawing is a characteristic that we are very good at during childhood, however it somehow became negative when we reached adulthood. We have to wonder why it is such a maligned action, when it is responsible for leading to some amazing creations. And because it utilizes all of the ways that we intake knowledge (visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetics), while also adding emotions to the learning process, it has increased probabilities of actual information retention (29% more according to Sunni). And in closing, doodling allows us to understand the creative process a little better, and give those creative types their props! What they do is inspiring, and adds beauty and imagination to our world! What’s not to like? Hear more in her Ted Talk.

This Is Beautiful

I saw this video forwarded by the Behance Network, and wanted to share this as well just because of its sheer beauty. The tone, the creativity, and the colors make this a stop-animation video that is just as inspirational to adults as it is to children. This is “A Little Lesson on Feelings” by the children’s tv show, Ruby’s Studio: The Feelings Show. The characters were all created by Hine Mizushima for The Mother Company. Absolutely beautiful and so wonderful for us all!

And if you want one of Hine’s creations, here’s her Etsy shop.

Loving Anime

My all-time favorite anime, Cowboy Bebop (Sunrise)

Living in Japan throughout my youth, I consider myself seriously lucky to have experienced some amazing art creations like those that can be found in anime (Japanese animation). I grew up with so many of them while living there, and then found even more to watch after I eventually moved back to the United States. Anime (and manga) will always be a staple in my life, simply because their creators have some of the most amazing minds that create so much inspiring beauty! It’s a different style from American animation, but it’s one that I feel a kindred spirit as it connects me to some good memories from childhood. It’s also what helped give me an unquenchable love for art and story-telling. I love anime! What’s your favorites? Here’s a few (very few) of mine: Continue reading

Words From The Inside

I heard about the Starbucks employee, Chris Cristwell, that got fired for a rant video about his day with inconsiderate customers, and just had to write about it. Now granted, I wasn’t in favor of all of his words, but the message does ring true. In today’s world of business where everything is about the customer, it seems like the employees are being forgotten more and more. Judging from some comments on the many stories that are posting all over the web, the words resonate with a lot of retail workers. Maybe some companies need a lesson that humans are not just resources, when dealing with their employees?

And on the flip side as consumers, I really think that we need to relearn what being human feels like. When I’m ordering something or talking to someone behind a desk, and ask them how they’re doing, it’s really enlightening to see how their faces and voices light up. And to hear their words of gratitude that someone cares just a little is really humbling. We really need to extend a hand of friendship for those who work in the service field. Especially since this is what makes up the majority of work in America today!

Having been in their shoes when I was younger, I totally get what they’re talking about. And as I got older and still worked in jobs that provided services to other workers and customer, I can attest that it didn’t improve a whole lot with a venue change to the “corporate” world. Hopefully, today’s companies really mean what they say about valuing their employees. I would hate to find out that their words were just words. All people are important to the whole. Not just those who pay. And we also need to realize that when someone is blowing off steam, then they’re entitled as long as they do it responsibly. Everyone has bad days.

Cup Noodle Culture – Japan Style

You know that I had to cover this, considering that I’m half-Japanese : )

If you’ve ever been a starving (fill in job title here), then you know what Cup Noodle is. Japan’s Nissin Foods is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Cup Noodle, which has made ramen noodles into a world-wide sensation, by creating another (2nd) museum that covers the history of this food staple. Not only do visitors get to see how ramen has changed over the years, but they can make their own personal Cup Noodles dish. Sounds yummy!

Amazing News

And we are taking one more step forward towards equality. King Abdullah of Saudi Arabi has announced that women would have the right to participate in the right to vote and stand as candidates on the local council elections, which are the public polls of the land. Inspiring news, indeed! Congratulations to the women who have fought so hard to be heard! One more event that can bring about positive change for us all.

Pakayla Rae Biehn sees things differently than most of us, and it shows in her paintings.  Because of her condition, Strabismus, she sees things in double vision. Even more amazing is that the images are so detailed, we can believe that they are photographs. Go to Pakayla’s blog to get to know her better and see more of her amazing works. Absolutely mesmerizing!

There are so many talented artists out there that see the beauty in this world, that we’ve got to be able to find a way to make if a reality!
